The NK West Building is the culmination of over eight years of planning and concern about redeveloping a key piece of La Grande’s historic downtown. The 24-unit project for individuals and families earning 50 percent or less of median family income (MFI) is located on La Grande’s main street with ground floor commercial storefronts topped by three residential floors facing a plaza on the second level. The front façade is designed to reflect the historic nature of the downtown area, while the residential “face” of the building opens into three buildings surrounding a plaza. This open arrangement affords each apartment natural light, a private entry connected by elevator and a shared outdoor courtyard. The units include dishwashers, disposals, and pre-wiring for high-speed computer access. The building features a laundry room, and a community room with a small kitchen, television area and resident manager office. Services include information and referral, job placement assistance and case management as applicable.
